Drugs / Crime
The Task Force does not currently have any initiatives specifically targeted at drugs and crime. Nevertheless, Ward 12 has the one of the highest crime rates in the City of Ottawa. There have been concerted efforts by other groups in Lowertown, Councillor Bédard, and the Ottawa Police Service to curb crime and drug trafficking in the area. The Task Force supports the following recommendations from Safer Ottawa: pushing for further work with Public Health to improve the integrated needle response program; lobbying for and promotion of official public events in our parks; and, lobbying for “Scan” legislation to improve the shut-down time of crack houses.
